Thick Face, Black Heart - The Review Part 3

This is the Part 3 review of the book, Thick Face Black Heart by Chin Ning Chu. Click for Part 1 and Part 2.

In Chapter 3, the contents revolves around the concept of Dharma. According to wikipedia, the word Dharma comes from Sanskrit which happens to be the oldest language in the world and said to originate from ancient India. So, that means civilization begins in India?

Dharma can be simplified as "the right way of living" or "proper conduct" and considered as The Way of the Higher Truths. It also refers to the teaching and doctrines of the founders of these tradition, such as Gautama Buddha. In a sense, it is similar to the ancient Chinese way of the Tao or Taoism.

The author, in order to make it clearer, gave example such as A Warrior's Dharma is to slay the enemies of his nation and a physician's Dharma is to save lives, even enemies' life. So, this would be like a doctor's Dharma is to save lives and a soldier's Dharma is to fight for his country.

In the book, there is this righteous Thick Face, Black Heart practitioner and the unconscionable Thick Face, Black Heart practitioner who is willing to win at ALL COSTS without any regards of the consequences to other people. So, with Dharma in one's consciousness, one can be a righteous Thick Face, Black Heart practitioner.

All along in Chapter 3, the author shows stories which illustrate the Dharma in practice and end with the emphasis that Dharma is the natural law that guides our actions and is the foundation of Thick Face, Black Heart.
