Ending and Beginning

It is the last day of 2007 which means 2007 is coming to its end.

If according to the lunar calendar, it is the end of the golden boar year and going to usher into the rat year. So, that would be golden rat year in 2008 I think. Yep, it comes back to the beginning of the circle. Do not understand what I am talking about? Well, read the story of the Chinese Horoscope/Zodiac and you will know.

Anyway, its New Year Eve. Time to reflect back what have you done in 2007 and also plan for the 2008 resolution. Yes, you reflect and plan. Am not going to reflect and plan mine here.

So

Photoshop Basics Tutorial Part 1

Alright, yours truly am going to do a series of Photoshop tutorials. For those who don't know, basically Adobe Photoshop is an image manipulation software. All you need to know is that Photoshop is very very useful and by knowing how to at least operate/use Photoshop will do you more good than harm.

Lets begin with the basics shall we?
For those who are already very expert in Photoshop please bear with me. One have to learn how to crawl before one can walk, correct?

First of all, open up Photoshop. Yes, you have to install Photoshop FIRST before you can use it and yes, you have to double click on the Photoshop icon before you can run it. Unless of course if yours are operated by voice command then that would be different.
(And yep, I am trying to be funny here in case you don't know. =p)

So, the first thing you will see when you run Photoshop is the WORKSPACE or the Photoshop main window. Refer to the following image which is labeled for your convenience.

There are a lot of different panels and function in Photoshop. I will briefly explain the few main interfaces that are more commonly used.

Menu Bar/Drop Down Menu
The menu bar is the standard drop down menus that can be seen in most Window based applications and contain almost all Photoshop's features. The menus is quite self explanatory and the menu bar will be used constantly in the usage of Photoshop.

Tool Options
This is the section where you can find a collection of options that relate to the currently selected tools and you can change the settings for your tools.

Tools Bar
A very important panel in Photoshop. This is where you can find all the main basic tools that are used in order to manipulate images in Photoshop. A more detailed explanation of the tools bar will be posted in future tutorials.

Stage/Canvas
I call it stage as this is the place where you can stage/put your materials and produce your masterpiece. Canvas is also appropriate as this is the place where you can draw or manipulate on. So, basically the stage/canvas is where you will conduct your editing and then view the final result.

Navigator/Info Panel
You can use the navigator to zoom in and out and nagivate around the canvas to specific places to edit whereas the info panel shows the information about the current image such as file size, dimension and so on.

Color/Styles Panel
Enables you to select color using the RGB sliders or selects the color from swatches which are web-safe colors. Aside from that, you can use the styles to apply to layers instants from predefined styles. You can also custom make styles and save it for easy access in future use.

History/Action Panel
Lists out all the actions done in Photoshop so that it is easier to go back to the previous step. You can also create snapshots in order to return to any key points in the manipulation process. Aside from that action panel enable you to record the steps taken to do a common modification so that that similar steps can be applied with a single click.

Layers Panel
Layers are one of the most important section in Photoshop which enable you to easily edit and manipulate images. A more detailed post regarding the layers panel will be posted in future tutorials.

That is all for the first part of Photoshop Basics Tutorial. Stay tuned for the second part where I would try to explain about all the tools in tools bar, layers, and the usage of shortcut keys to make the process of manipulation faster and easier.

Lucky

After all that happened, the laptop case and the car case. I am beginning to wonder whether I have a guardian angel or not. Everyone has their very own guardian angel and those angels comes in different forms.

Perhaps my guardian angel happens to be asleep the time those thing happened. Sleeping on the job, so they say or maybe I have the laziest guardian angel there is. Anyway, ditch that.

What to do when you know that your guardian angel is not doing a good job or is just plain lazy?
You will need all the luck in the world.

Yep, I need all the luck that I can get. Need to get lucky.

How to get lucky?
Either you just let it come to you or you can go and get lucky by force. Well, can't blame me for using force. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Boulevard Madness

The first hypermarket in Kuching, Boulevard had its soft opening on the 22nd December 2007. Normally, yours truly would not be bothered to go during launching or openings as he knows that there sure to be lots and lots of people rushing to send in their money.

However, this time is an exception because of the nagging received from his sis. Yes, between nagging and risking his life at the rush madness, he choose risking his life.
(Not to mention precious time wasted in the process of finding place to park.)

Once there, the area around Boulevard are already fully parked with cars. Lots of cars. All going to Boulevard. Some even parked quite a distance and walk over, of which I would not understand why. You see, I am the type that if there is too much hassle to go and SPEND my money, I would rather go spend elsewhere.

More cars

Finally more parking bays
(Sort of, as it is packed)
..........................................

Have to give credit to Boulevard though, they have peoples directing the traffic at the car park as it tends to get confusing at times and they also help out with the parking process.
(Notice I say traffic at the carpark? That indicates the volume of the cars there. =p)

So, what is there to see at Boulevard that attracts so much people? First, it is new and being the FIRST hypermarket in Kuching helps. Not really done with the renovation and the occupation of spaces. Lets see, already present there is Kenny Rogers, Guardian, Fujisan Bakery, Hang Ten, Sinma, Fabiano Ricci, and some of the stores that I can't really recall the names. Heard that Sushi King will be there also.

On that particular day, the BOH Tea conducts some promotion or marketing show to promote their new product, the Teacino. Altogether there are 4 flavors/colors. 4 victims models are used to represent the different color. In my opinion, they did their job quite well.

Without further ado,

Almost Stolen Car

Just now at around 0015 hours (It's 12:15am in case ya don't know), my car is almost stolen. Yes, yours truly am very popular with thieves and the like. After the stolen laptop case and now the nearly stolen car.

Luckily I did not sleep early as I am browsing through blogs. See, Blogs are good MMMKAYYY. So, I heard my car yelling for its master (car alarm) and I rushed out to check what happened. I saw a tall dark skinned guy opening my car's door and when he saw me rushing out, he ran to a car and speed off.

Upon inspection, the driver's side door keyhole has been drilled into with some type of equipment. Darn, have to fork out some moolah to repair it. Darn.

Yours Truly manage to mental jot the car plate number of the car used by those bastards.

Police report done.

Beware of

Perodua Kancil (Grey)
QKT 569

Location

Kuching

So, those who are from Kuching might want to jot down the car plate number and try to be alert of any Kancil with the same number. It is possible that they scouts the area for quite sometime already before making their move. I believe there is a carjacking syndicate in Kuching or at least more than one.

Anyway, try to not park your car outside your house if you have the choice. Don't just leave it to fend for itself. It also happens during daytime and not only at night. Nowadays I believe there are certain types of people who are very desperate in finding money no matter how. Especially those who just want fast cash regardless what method to use and more than often the only method they can think of is the illegal criminal way.

Pictures of the drilled car keyhole.

Commemoration

It has been more than a month since you left me.

A year ago when I first set sight on you, I knew that at that instance, we were meant to be together. Up until that point in time, I never knew you existed and fate played her hand that we should be together. For that I am truly grateful.

We have been together for one whole year and during that period of time, you helped me tremendously not only in my career and studies but also in the way of how life should be. You are my companion during the times when I am alone. All those memories we had, all those journey stages that we had gone through together strengthen me to be a better person.

However, I took you for granted and thought that you will always be there for me in supporting and giving that extra help that I need. Yes, I am delusional in thinking that you will never leave me. Delusional indeed.

Partly I am to blame for not taking care of you better although I understand that you are forced to leave me. It is not by your own free will but are forcibly taken away from me and possibly violated. I could have prevented it. If only I am more paranoid but instead I choose to believe that there are still hope and kindness in humans refusing to believe that human beings today are "ugly" at its very core.

I still believe that humans are born good natured. It is the environment and situation that force the changes to happen. Nevertheless, I have learned my lesson to not trust people easily. I deeply regret that I did not appreciate you more when you are still with me.

Yes, humans are strange. They will only come to realize the importance to them after it is gone and more than often it is too late to repent or rectify what had happened.

Ever since you left me, I realized that the most important and precious thing that I missed about you is not your physical appearance but your insides. After all, like the saying goes, "Beauty is only skin deep". What you have inside of you is what matters the most. You are important to me because of what you had inside of you.

Now, I have accepted the fact that you will be gone forever. If I can turn back the time, I would do so without hesitations but alas I am only a human, a mortal.

The following is an "epitaph" made specially to commemorate you.

Sibu Flood 2007

I think most of you know this already. Especially those who are from Sarawak.

My hometown, Sibu is flooded. Somebody forget to turn off their tap I guess.......

Alright, that is lame.. =p

Previous post on Sibu here and here.

Anyway, I have some pictures emailed to me. Pictures on the Sibu Flood. It has been a while since the last time I went back.

It is not as bad as the flood in Johor but still it is a flood.

Anyone have more pictures for me? I am interested with the flood pictures of my hometown. And no, I am not sadistic. I don't take pleasure with other people's pain. Unlike what happened to me. I really hope that you are happy knowing the pain I have to endure from losing it. May you live forever.

Kampung Buntal

***Obviously I know that the last picture "Bilian" is not seafood. For those who don't know. "Bilian" is not sea veggie either as it does not grow in the sea. It is just a local vegetable. So there. For ya revelations***

Last weekend, Sunday went to Kampung Buntal. It's a place that is famous for its seafood. So I heard. Actually went to Damai Beach Resort to pick someone up and decided to just drive over since it is nearby.

Anyway, having sea view or beach view while eating shouldn't be that bad right. The view is quite nice and the food is quite good. However, I would not recommend to deliberately drive up to Kampung Buntal JUST to eat seafood. There are other nearer alternatives. However, there is this restaurant near Sematan that is worth the drive but that is another story for another time.

Heavy Fine For Downloaders

*** For those who follow this blog, which I am sure the amount are countable using fingers. You will notice that there is a serious lack of updates. This is due to the stolen Phoenix case and yours truly doesn't have the moolah to just go and get a new rig. Not only that, yours truly been busy with the concluding of the case.(Will do a complete post on that on other day)***

I am sure by now, everyone who have Internet connection (read broadband) knows about this already.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry warned Malaysians who download songs, video and etc to be prepared to pay a minimum fine of RM250,000 and up to Rm500,000.

For more information, click here.

Now, what I am curious is that how the enforcement will be. I dare say that almost all broadband users if not all, uses broadband for downloads. Before I continue, I feel the need to clarify that yours truly am not implying that he is doing illegal downloads although he is a broadband user. (If the Streamyx package can be considered broadband at all..)If the Ministry going to fine each and every single one of em, then that Ministry is going to be the richest ministry in the government.

That aside, it is quite interesting to see how all of this will end up. Heck, they have not even weed out those "physical" piracy such as dvd and yet they say that they want to focus on illegal downloaders?

How bout those fake stuff? Those imitations? Bagaimana? So far the enforcement on pirated dvd is not that strict. At least not in Kuching from what I see. Just go to Jalan Song (DVD dramas) or Kenyalang(Movies and softwares) or even Saberkas(Softwares and Games). Surely there are other places in Malaysia where one can EASILY get pirated stuffs.

Before this, those TMNet/Streamyx people already done some torrent shaping that blocks or limits connections for P2P softwares and that raised some noise but after a while it just calm down with the people knowing how to defeat the torrent shaping. In that view, surely it is just a matter of time before people will have ways to defeat the tracking system.

Another example....Lets say, Windows. It is almost like an open secret that Windows piracy is abundant in Malaysia. (Well, not only in Malaysia but also other parts of the world). Up until now, there seems to be no enforcement and suppose that it can't be done?

So, for now.

To download or not to download.........That is the question.

Done with my ramblings.

Miniature Pinscher

***Still looking for all those pictures taken during the beach trip to Sematan, so that post is delayed***

There is a new addition to the house. That means the total K9 in the house amounts to 3. Previous post on Men's Best Friend.

The new addition is a Miniature Pinscher also more popularly known as Min Pin which is a breed of toy dog. Miniature Pinscher can grow up to 12 inch long or 30cm.
(Small indeed)

Anyway, my sister bought a female Miniature Pinscher(RM600) just for her beloved Princeton to hump satisfy its sex crazed needs. Seems like Princeton just got himself a wife.
(Have to wait till the Miniature Pinscher grows a little bit bigger though)

So, without further ado..........

Introducing
TINKERBELL
(Yes, I noticed that it is the same name as Paris Hilton's pet chihuahua. Don't ask me, ask my sis)

.....................................................

Now Princeton can satisfy his lust
(Need to wait till Tinkerbell grows up though- For sure he won't mind)
(Afterall, he's been waiting so long)
